Maternity Photography Session in Burlington, ON

I have had the pleasure of photographing this little family a number of times throughout my career. They first found me through a facebook marketplace listing and have come back to me many times since then! These two are such a wonderful loving couple and their dog is a wonderful addition, always providing some laughs during their portrait sessions. I always do my best to ensure everyone is comfortable and feels natural when being photographed, and having a rapport with clients certainly helps everyone feel more at ease, leading to emotional, connective portraits that capture your love. When you find a photography who you jive with and whose work you love, you've gotta hold on to them tight!!

Planning your Maternity Session

Winter is a magical season that provides a unique backdrop for maternity photography. The snow, the frost, and the cozy clothing all contribute to creating a beautiful and memorable maternity photoshoot. In this blog post, we’ll explore some tips for capturing the perfect winter maternity photography session.

Dress Appropriately

One of the most important things to consider during a winter maternity photography session is dressing appropriately. We want everyone to feel warm and comfortable during a photoshoot, especially in the cold winter months. Consider wearing layers of warm clothing, such as a thick coat, a scarf, and gloves. You can also add some style to your outfit by wearing a colorful scarf or bringing along a favourite blanket to wrap yourself in for some extra cozy photos!

Choose the Right Location

When it comes to winter maternity photography, the location is everything. You want to choose a location that’s both beautiful and safe for you and your photographer. Some great options for a winter maternity photoshoot include a snowy park, a forest with evergreen trees, or if you'd prefer to stay warm indoors, I also offer a variety of options in my indoor studio!

Take Advantage of the Lighting

Winter lighting can be quite magical and create a beautiful ambiance for your maternity photoshoot. Take advantage of the natural light by scheduling your shoot during the golden hour, which is the hour before sunset. This soft, warm light creates a romantic and ethereal feel to your photos. Aside from mini sessions, I try to schedule all outdoor portrait sessions during the last 2 hours of daylight to ensure the best lighting possible! On overcast days, there is much more flexibility for timing, since the cloud cover acts as a giant soft box, ensuring beautiful soft light from any angle!

Embrace the Snow

Winter is the perfect season to embrace the snow and make it a part of your maternity photography. Snow can provide a beautiful backdrop for your photos and make for some unique and memorable shots. Your Maternity Photography session will generally only take around 30-45 minutes, so it's a short amount of time to brave the cold and snow, and the result is always an absolutely stunning gallery!
